Why You'll Love This Halloween Candy Bark
- Perfectly fun and spooky! Make this Halloween Candy Bark, along with Graveyard Brownies or Halloween Trail Mix for the best Halloween treat-filled celebrations. The candy bones and candy eyes add a festive (and spooky) flare, while the candy adds some crunch and flavor. Serve it at your next Halloween party, school event, or hand out bags full for trick or treaters!
- Takes just about 30 minutes! If you don't love to bake or spend hours in the kitchen, this is the recipe for you! It only takes just about 15 minutes of prep time plus 15 minutes for the chocolate to set in the fridge. It's a no brainer!
- A great way to repurpose leftover Halloween candy! Sick of eating candy on its own? Repurpose it on top of this Halloween bark instead. Mix and match different candies and flavors for different variations of this fun Halloween treat.
Ingredients
A few notes about the ingredients:
- Semisweet Chocolate: I like to use semisweet chocolate as the base to help balance out all of the sweetness from the candies. If you like a sweeter chocolate dessert, you can use milk chocolate instead.
- White Chocolate: The white chocolate is optional and purely decorative, but I highly recommend using it since it adds such a fun look to the bark!
- Halloween Candy: The candies listed in the recipe are simply just examples of possibilities. You can definitely use any candy you like best. Chocolate candies work better than the fruity ones, but feel free to get creative with the combinations and flavors.
- Candy Bones and Eyes: I like to use the candy eyes and bones for an added spooky element. However, if you want to stick to just chocolate candies, you can omit the eyes and bones.
⭐️ See recipe card below for descriptions and quantities of each ingredient.
Instructions
- Step 1: Chop the semi sweet chocolate and white chocolate bars. Place them in separate, microwave safe bowls. Slice each of the candy bars and place them in separate bowls as well.
- Step 2: Melt the semi sweet chocolate in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- Step 3: Immediately after, melt the white chocolate in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.
- Step 4: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spread the semi sweet chocolate over the parchment in a rectangular shape.
- Step 5: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over top. You can leave it as is, or drag a toothpick through the white chocolate to make designs, like a spiderweb.
- Step 6: Working quickly, top the melted chocolate with the candy bars, m&ms, candy eyes, and candy bones, sprinkling them throughout.
- Step 7: Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator to set for about 15 minutes.
- Step 8: Once set, cut the Halloween bark into pieces or use your hands to break it.
⭐️ Tip: Make sure you work quickly so the chocolate doesn't harden before you can add the candy toppings!
Substitutions and Alterations
- Semisweet Chocolate - I like using semisweet chocolate to help tame the sweetness of the bark. However, milk chocolate can be used if you prefer a sweeter dessert.
- White Chocolate - White chocolate isn't 100% necessary, so if you don't have any on hand, you can simply omit it.
- Halloween Candies - I love the combination of the nuttiness in Reese's and Snickers with the caramel of the Twix. However, you can add any candies you like best: 100 Grand, Butterfingers, Mounds, Baby Ruths, Whoppers, Take 5s, Crunch bars, and KitKats would all work great too!
How to Store Halloween Candy Bark
To store: Store Halloween Candy Bark in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 10 days.
To freeze: You can freeze the chocolate bark in a freezer-safe container up to 6 months. However, the color on the bones, eyes, and m&ms may bleed off as the chocolate is defrosted.
Top tip!
Slicing the candy bars into thin strips works best visually. This allows you to recognize the candy on top of the bark and see all the different textural layers within the candy bars. If you chop the candy too finely, you won't get the same texture or visual appearance.
Recipe FAQs
Often during the holiday season, sweet treats like homemade Peppermint Bark or Toffee Bark are popular to make and snack on.
They're simple and festive, filled with a layer of chocolate, topped with crushed candy canes, pretzels, nuts, dried fruits, toffee, or other chocolate candies. Once the chocolate sets, you break it into bite-sized pieces, resembling "bark" from a tree.
This recipe is similar to those, but uses Halloween candy as the topping instead of the traditional peppermint candies, nuts, or fruits. Easy for snacking, popping into your mouth, or serving for dessert!

- Immediately after, melt the white chocolate in 30 second intervals, stirring in between, until melted and smooth.

- Drizzle the melted white chocolate over top. You can leave it as is, or drag a toothpick through the white chocolate to make designs, like a spiderweb.

Notes
- Use a sharp knife for clean cuts of the candy bars and chocolate bark.
- When melting the chocolate, microwave just until some chunks remain in the bowl. Then, stir the rest of the way until the chocolate is smooth. If you over-heat the chocolate, it will seize up instead of getting smooth and glossy.
